ExperTox Unknown Drug Panel (Hair and Nail Testing)

AMH Nationwide provides access to the ExperTox Unknown Drug Panel for hair and nail samples. Comprehensive drug testing is suited for situations where the substance involved is unclear and a broad, laboratory-based toxicology review is required. Results come from an accredited facility and support personal, legal, and workplace decisions.

What Is the ExperTox Unknown Drug Panel?

The ExperTox Unknown Drug Panel is a wide-spectrum toxicology test that scans for both quantitative and qualitative markers. It evaluates hair and nail samples for an extensive range of drugs, metabolites, and therapeutic agents.

A comprehensive drug testing approach is used when a targeted drug test is not appropriate or when the suspected substance is unknown. The expanded drug panel identifies exposure patterns across a long detection window and can help clarify concerns following a potential contact with an unidentified compound.

Hair Testing

Hair testing offers a historical overview of drug exposure based on the length of the sample. Each segment reflects the accumulation of substances during its growth period. Drug incorporation can vary due to the amount, duration, and frequency of exposure and may be influenced by hair treatments such as bleaching or styling products.

Nail Testing

Nail testing provides another long-term option for individuals who cannot supply hair or prefer a non-hair method. Nails capture drug biomarkers through keratin growth and support assessments that reach back several months.

When Is the ExperTox Unknown Drug Panel Used?

The ExperTox Unknown Drug Panel is requested in situations involving:

  • Unexplained symptoms
  • Uncertain household exposure
  • Complex workplace investigations or legal reviews that require broad toxicology documentation

It supports individuals who need an extensive screen without assuming a specific drug category.

What the Expanded Drug Panel Reports

ExperTox drug testing provides two result types:

Quantitative results

These values fall within a reported range from the laboratory’s limit of quantification up to the upper limit. If a substance exceeds the upper limit, the result appears as a greater-than value. For example, readings above 1,000 pg/mg are reported as “>1,000 pg/mg” when that figure represents the stated maximum for that drug category.

Qualitative results

A qualitative positive appears as “Detected” when the drug is present above the established cutoff.

This combination helps distinguish between trace exposure and measurable accumulation.
