The hair alcohol test requires 90 to 120 strands of head hair that is also 1 ½ inches to 2 inches in length. Body hair collection options include underarm hair, chest hair, leg hair, facial hair, forearm hair, back hair, and sometimes pubic hair. It is not uncommon for us to get requests for a hair test for drugs and alcohol. These are actually two hair tests. If you need both, you will need an additional 90 to 120 strands for all hair panels below the 10-panel hair drug test. Larger panels, such as 12 panel hair follicle test, require about double the sample amount (double 90 to 120 strands of head hair that is also 1 ½ inches to 2 inches in length or body hair.) In some cases, if you do not have a lot of hair and you need a hair alcohol test plus one of our largest panels, such as the 17 panel, we may want to discuss your head and body hair situation and request that the lab collect one body hair and one head hair collection. (If head hair is too short, see 30-day hair follicle drug test (17 panel) or 60-day hair follicle drug test (17 panel) or fingernail drug test.)

Detection time:

The hair drug and alcohol tests have a detection time of an estimated 90 days from potential usage. Until recently, the only detection time for hair alcohol ETG testing was 90 days. However, AMH is pleased to offer extended detection times for hair alcohol testing in increments of 30, 60, and 90 day segments! As long as your hair is the appropriate length, we can order a 6 month, 9 month, 1 year alcohol ETG test (etc). We also offer shortened detection times, at-home anonymous ETG testing and drug and alcohol panels.

Answer: The most commonly ordered hair drug test is a 5 panel. When people ask for a standard hair drug test this is generally what they mean. It does not automatically include testing for alcohol. In fact, up until recently we could not order a hair drug test and alcohol test together. It was only orderable as two separate tests. For that reason, it is likely that the hair follicle test you are taking does not include testing for alcohol. However, your drug test order will show you exactly what you are getting tested for.
