FAQ

I am searching for a hair drug test for kratom for my daughter. I saw my daughter’s best friend walking out of the CBD and kratom shop. My daughter has been acting unusual the last 6-8 months, sweating, frequent mood swings, and sometimes talking really fast. I may be overreacting by making her do a hair drug test but she is only 17, is she just being a teenager or is she using drugs?

You’re not the first parent worried that your kid is doing drugs. Yes, of course it is possible that you are overreacting, but it is also possible that your concerns are real. Kratom is legal in most states, but she likely has to be 18 to purchase it. Using kratom can be known to produce some of the behavior changes you are describing. Our 18 panel hair drug test will include a test for kratom, as well as many other drugs teenagers may be using such as amphetamines and crystal meth, cocaine, opiates, fentanyl, marijuana and MDMA ecstasy. The 18 panel hair drug test is not available for an at-home collection so you will have to take her into one of our labs. Also, you mentioned that this has been going on for 6-8 months, therefore you may consider a longer detection time. This 18 panel hair test, that includes kratom, does not have the option of testing back beyond the standard 90 days. However, you could consider the 18 panel nail drug test or possibly a body hair collection.

Is kratom dangerous? I recently found a bag of green powder in my boyfriend’s drawer. He told me it was just green tea. He had been using suboxone for past addiction so I am wondering if he is using kratom now and if so is this something to be concerned about?

Kratom is sometimes used to reduce opioid withdrawal. If he was using suboxone in the past it was likely due to an opiate addiction, which of course is not an easy addiction to beat. If he is using kratom did he relapse and is now trying to wean himself off opiates, or was it perhaps just easier to get kratom than the suboxone he was taking? While kratom may be able to help him with his addiction problems long term usage of kratom is probably not a great idea. Although kratom is legal and marketed as an herbal supplement, many argue it is still dangerous.
